Electromagnetic fields, 5G and health: what about the precautionary principle?

چکیده
New fifth generation (5G) telecommunications systems, now being rolled out globally, have become the subject of a fierce controversy. Some health protection agencies and their scientific advisory committees concluded that there is no conclusive evidence harm. Several recent reviews by independent scientists, however, suggest significant uncertainty on this question, with rapidly emerging potentially harmful biological effects from radio frequency electromagnetic field (RF-EMF) exposures, at levels 5G roll-out will entail. This essay identifies four relevant sources concern: (1) lack clarity about precisely what technology included in 5G; (2) accumulating body laboratory studies documenting disruptive vitro vivo RF-EMFs—but one many gaps it; (3) an almost total (as yet) high-quality epidemiological adverse human EMF exposure specifically, but such past generations RF-EMF exposure; (4) persistent allegations some national regulatory authorities do not base safety policies latest science, related to unmanaged conflicts interest. The author, experienced epidemiologist, concludes cannot dismiss growing concerns RF-EMFs, especially era when higher population are occurring widely, due spatially dense transmitters which systems require. Based precautionary principle, author echoes calls others for moratorium further pending more research safety.

Electromagnetic Fields and the Precautionary Principle
While for substances that may be detrimental to health if incorporated through the skin, or by inhalation or ingestion precautionary procedures have been developed in the past decades that are applied in a transparent and standardised way by health authorities, public health agencies and international organisations in order to protect the public from a potential health hazard, no such procedure...
متن کاملHealth risk assessment of electromagnetic fields: a conflict between the precautionary principle and environmental medicine methodology.
The purpose of the precautionary principle is that legal requirements are to be made to safeguard against the possible health risks that have not yet been scientifically established. That a risk is not established cannot, therefore, be used as an excuse for not applying the principle. Yet, that rationale is exactly what is happening in the case of the possible health risks from exposure to elec...

The European Commission is actively promoting the precautionary principle as a “key tenet” of Community policy as well as a general principle of international law. This paper explains why this promotional effort is likely to fail or to produce unanticipated and undesirable consequences. The principle has a legitimate but limited role to play in risk management, for example whenever there is an ...

The precautionary principle is a guide to public policy decision making (Raffensperger and Tickner 1999, Schettler et al. 2002). It responds to the realization that humans often cause serious and widespread harm to people, wildlife, and the general environment. According to the precautionary principle, precautionary action should be undertaken when there are credible threats of harm, despite re...
